Amazon, Cleartrip launch flight bookings in India

India Global Business Staff

Amazon has introduced flight bookings in India without much hype. The online retailer has joined hands with Cleartrip for the new service, which can be accessed on the Amazon Pay control panel in the Amazon app and its website. The online retailer seems to offer a quite basic flight booking experience at present and only domestic flights bookings are supported. While flight bookings at Amazon India seem to have started quietly last week, officially it has not made any announcement. The company′s participation in flight bookings seems to be limited to only providing a space for flight bookings and Cleartrip will take care of all the post-booking support for the customer. Amazon has been steadily expanding Amazon Pay′s functions in India and the company has even added support for peer-to-peer payments in the service recently. Currently, Amazon Pay also offers support for mobile top-ups, DTH top-ups and various bill payments.

In a move that renewed hope in India’s civil aviation circles, and sent waves of optimism in business circles, the Tata Group acquired beleaguered national carrier Air India for $2.4 billion last week. The transaction will be completed by December 2021.
