Jawa motorcycles back in India

India Global Business Staff

Czech motorcycle brand Jawa has been acquired a new lease of life under the ownership of the Mahindra Group. The group launched Jawa and Jawa Forty Two, bringing back the classic appeal of the brand with modern fittings. The bikes have an all-new 293cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, DOHC engine nestled within a double cradle chassis. The brand, popular in the Sixties along with the British brand Royal Enfield, will compete with the UK models once again. Anupam Thareja, Founder of Mahindra Groups's Classic Legends, said the company has already set up 105 dealerships across India and may look at opening more in the near future. “It is rare to get an opportunity to resurrect a legend,” said Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra.

In a move that renewed hope in India’s civil aviation circles, and sent waves of optimism in business circles, the Tata Group acquired beleaguered national carrier Air India for $2.4 billion last week. The transaction will be completed by December 2021.
