Chinas Great Wall Motor signs $1bn MoU with Maharashtra

The Chinese auto major has committed $1 billion to set up a production facility in the state.

Chinese auto major Great Wall Motor (GWM) signed a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra government to pump in $1 billion to set up a production facility in the state, which it had acquired from General Motors.

This manufacturing unit will reportedly provide employment opportunity to more than 3,000 people. Parker Shi, Managing Director GWM India, said in a statement, “This would be a highly automated plant in Talegaon (near Pune) with advanced robotics technology integrated in many of the production processes.”

He further added, “Overall we are committed to $1 billion of investment in India in a phased manner, which is directed towards manufacturing world class intelligent and premium products, R&D centre, building supply chain and providing jobs to over 3,000 people in a phased manner.”

GWM acquired the manufacturing unit from American manufacturer GM early this year. The factory has facilities like logistics distribution centre, training centre, project management building, administrative office building and public facilities centre. The Chinese manufacturer will produce its EV and SUV models at the plant.
