PM Modi had launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan in May this year for India's economic self-reliance as a Covid relief package worth Rs 20 lakh crore. The Prime Minister had also urged people to adopt made in India products to benefit domestic businesses and that “every Indian must become vocal for our local,” Modi had said in his address to the nation in May.
Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, the Prime Minister had launched the Atmanirbhar Bharat Innovation challenge to spot those Indian apps who possessed the potential to go global across various platforms along with the development of new apps in India which have “world-class” standards.
Since the pandemic has encouraged social distancing, work from home, rotation shift work as well as remote location working, there are various avenues for app development. The eight broad categories for the challenge are social networking, office productivity & work from home, entertainment, health & wellness, e-learning, business including agritech and fintech, news, and games.
The challenge witnessed the participation of excellent apps that have the potential to become leaders in their categories. Several apps have been created by women entrepreneurs who have reflected how technology can help to create successful enterprises.
The video app 'Chingari' who is a rival to the erstwhile popular Chinese app TikTok, emerged as the winner of the 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge', in the social category.
The second winner in the category was YourQuote, India′s biggest writing app, and news app Koo was the third winner. Pondering a little deeper into knowing these applications, the Chingari App allows the users to record and share short videos by using incredible filters and games. It offers the users an opportunity to browse through other short videos, like them, share them and download them, and more.
YourQuote is a mobile app that allows the users to create and share short quotes or text in English as well as 15 other regional languages. The platform also has an offline community of content creators.
The Koo app is the Indian alternative app to the popular microblogging site Twitter. Created by Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka, the app offers users a chance to voice their opinion in regional languages.
It was heartening to see as many as 6,940 entries from tech-entrepreneurs and start-ups from across the country. It surely ensures that the vision of the Prime Minister of an 'Aatma Nirbhar Bharat' will soon become a reality.
